In 2022, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced Regional Child Care Planning Grants — coordinated by the Early Childhood Investment Corporation (ECIC) — to accelerate community-level efforts to develop new partnerships and implement action plans to address the child care crisis by engaging economic development partners. Ann Arbor SPARK received a grant to lead this work for the Livingston and Washtenaw County region and convened area businesses, child care providers, municipal partners, education partners, and families to form a regional coalition.

Throughout 2023, the group gathered data and had a series of focused conversations resulting in an action plan that, if implemented, can help improve the state of child care in the region.
