Ann Arbor, Mich., March 1, 2017 — The Washtenaw Community College Board of Trustees voted Tuesday to update and approve the college’s “Assurance of Student Success” board policy.

The Assurance of Student Success Policy is a guarantee that ensures students, employers, and educational partners at four year colleges and universities that all WCC degree graduates will have the knowledge and performance skills required for their major program. Under the policy, students who meet the specified qualifications are able retake courses tuition free if needed.

“I appreciate the board’s quick action to update this policy,” said WCC President Dr. Rose B. Bellanca. “It gives us the opportunity to reiterate the vital importance of this policy and reaffirm our commitment to the highest educational standards.”

“The policy speaks to the value we hold with our educational partners and most importantly, emphasizes our promise to all WCC students – and that is to assure their success both in the workplace and in the classroom,” continued Bellanca.

The revised policy updates staff roles for those involved in the eligibility review process – which determines whether students are eligible to retake classes tuition-free – if they are unable to demonstrate the required knowledge and performance skills in their program major or occupation.
