On June 23rd, Washtenaw County officially received a Moody’s bond rating upgrade to Aaa status.  This is an exclusive club as only three counties in Michigan have this status. “Moody’s cites the county’s ‘solid economic environment and an expanding labor market’ as factors in upgrading Washtenaw County’s rating to Aaa,” said Paul Krutko, president and CEO of Ann Arbor SPARK. “Economic development in this region offers benefits beyond jobs and investment. Having a robust and stable economy supports the county’s ability to borrow at prime rates, and validates that this region is a top-tier destination for growing businesses. I was happy to be a part of the County team in making these presentations to Moody’s and Standards & Poor’s.”

According to the Washtenaw County press release, there are several factors that contributed to the upgraded status including its award-winning four year rolling budget and county government programs that enhance services for residents.

“A well-run local government offers confidence to business owners,” Krutko added. “Businesses definitely consider the efficiency and effectiveness of local government when choosing where to locate and where to add jobs. The positive performance of Washtenaw County government operations is a big plus for our economy.”
