Ann Arbor Recognized as #6 Most Innovative City in US

USA Today republished a report from 24/7 Wall Street citing Ann Arbor as the sixth most innovative city in the U.S. The report also acknowledged Ann Arbor SPARK and the organization’s efforts to support a network of high tech business and manufacturing companies with the goal of building awareness of the region and promoting economic growth.

The methodology examined the number of patents per 100,000 residents. While the article attributes a population of 358,000 to the city of Ann Arbor, this number more accurately represents the population of Washtenaw County.

• Patents granted in 2015 per 100,000 residents: 218.7
• Patents granted in 2015: 7,928
• Population: 358,880
• Adults with at least a bachelor’s degree: 54.5%

The article also acknowledges the University of Michigan’s significant contributions to R&D and cultivating an entrepreneurial atmosphere through programs like Innovate Blue.
