Akervall Technologies Inc. (ATI), makers of SISU Mouth Guards and SOVA Nightgrinding Mouth Guards, has donated 17,000 face shields to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor to support the hospital’s COVID-19 response.
When COVID-19 canceled sports seasons in early spring of 2020, Saline-based sports mouthguard and dental night guard manufacturer, Akervall Technologies turned a devastating circumstance into an opportunity to help protect essential workers.
ATI quickly pivoted production from sports mouthguards and night guards to face shields for medical workers and provided a much-needed Michigan-based source for PPE during those first critical months of the pandemic.
Fast forward to Summer 2021, as most of the country has begun to reopen sports, ATI has since returned focus to keeping up with sports mouthguard and night guard demand. However, Sassa Akervall, CEO of Akervall Technologies, wanted to ensure the remaining balance of their PPE went to those still battling, “The fight isn’t over yet,” said Akervall. She continued, “ATI is proud to have played such a small part of the solution in battling COVID-19, but we also know we aren’t out of the woods yet. The PPE my team produced belongs in the hands of those who need it most and those who are tirelessly still fighting. So donating it to St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor only makes sense.”
Akervall continued, “We supplied St. Joe’s with as much PPE as they needed but have a balance remaining. If there are any other hero organizations still in need, we encourage them to reach out. ATI stands by ready to help”.
Vice President of Development at Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, David W. Ripple, was appreciative of the donation. “ATI’s donation of PPE supports St. Joe’s commitment to safety. We feel fortunate to have the help of philanthropic partners in our community who are dedicated to the wellbeing of our clinical teams and the health of our patients as we continually build upon a foundation of medical excellence and strive to give compassion and hope to all who enter our doors,” said Ripple.
Ann Arbor SPARK supported Akervall Technologies early on, with funding as well as incubation and business acceleration services in the organization’s formative years. Since then, SPARK has continued to provide support through its business referral and talent initiatives.
