The Livingston Regional Job Fair held on April 17 proved to be a successful event for area business seeking to find employees that were right for them. “With the improving economy, more employers are hiring for a variety of positions from entry level to management in manufacturing, retail, food service, health care, information technology and finance, as well as self-employment,” said William Sleight, Director of Livingston County Michigan Works!
According to Sleight, sixty-three exhibitors attended the event seeking employees and ninety percent of those businesses who responded to a follow-up survey found qualified applicants. Exhibitors were pleased that they had several applicants from which to choose and more than half of the businesses surveyed hired applicants they met at the event. Many of the companies commented that the job fair was a great experience and over ninety-five percent of them said they would participate again in the future.
The job fair also proved to be a great experience for the several hundred job seekers who attended. Many commented they were able to find employment that was right for them. Those who obtained employment were pleased to obtain a permanent position. Emily, one of those successful job seekers, was able to secure 7 interviews and 3 job offers.
“The Livingston Regional Job Fair has again proved to be a vital resource for both job seekers and employers,” says Sleight. “I encourage anyone interested in learning more about future events or any of our services to come to the Center or visit us at www.lcmw.org.”
