This year was my first time both attending and working Tech Trek. As an intern, you really get to see the ins-and-outs of creating and running an event. Lucky for me, I was also able to participate for part of the Trek and learn all about the companies featured during the event.
Tech Trek is a great place for college kids and other young adults to get inspired. I was able to see so many innovations and advancements in technology located in my own community.
I talked to some other interns and found that we had similar feelings about our time spent at Tech Trek. Another SPARK intern said, “It was exciting to be a part of such a passionate team at SPARK and to see the community help showcase all the awesome things happening in Ann Arbor.”
I think Tech Trek is a wonderful resource for future job seekers, like myself. You get to meet the leaders of interesting companies and learn what they’re all about. I also found myself spending time around the Talent Terrace, learning how to do things like craft my resume so that it applies more directly to the jobs I want to apply for.
The most vital thing I learned was the value of networking. It is so important to have that face-to-face interaction with other people who share similar interests as you. You never know with whom you might be working in the future, so it’s key to build those connections now. I met so many people that I can see having a huge impact on my life.
It was also incredible to see how big technology developments are happening so close to me every day. Take Mobility Row, for example. I thought self-driving cars were only being developed in cities like Los Angeles and with companies like Tesla. In reality, people are making massive progress on autonomous vehicles right here in Ann Arbor. I got to meet and talk to the people paving the way for our future.
I’m so glad I had the opportunity to be a part of this event in a few different ways. Next year, whether I’m working it or not, I definitely see myself coming back to Tech Trek.
