These Three Ann Arbor Companies Made Big Announcements in August

Even in the face of a global pandemic, Blumira, Censys, and May Mobility are attracting investments and growing their teams. These Ann Arbor-based companies are great examples of the region’s strength and ingenuity. Here’s a quick review:

Blumira

Blumira is an emerging cybersecurity company that provides automated threat detection and response. Its mission is to make good security simple and affordable. 

What they announced: A $2.6 million seed round. The company plans to scale its solution which helps companies with limited security expertise implement a more effective way to detect threats. 

Who invested: Chicago-based M25, a rising early stage, Midwest-focused VC firm with additional investment from Array Ventures, a San Francisco-based venture capital firm. Read More

Blumira Career Openings

Censys

Censys started a couple of years ago with a goal to map devices connected to the internet, and increase their security profiles. They say they can map 44% more devices on the internet than others. Bolstered by some of the growing cybersecurity talent in Michigan and Ann Arbor, they’ve continuously scaled since their founding.

What they announced: A $15.5 million Series A round.

What’s next: They plan to use the additional funding to add more talent to their team, with plans to double the size of the team. Read More

Censys Career Openings

May Mobility

May Mobility provides a unique transportation solution — one that is autonomous and doesn’t require a driver. They’ve deployed around the country, including in Detroit and Grand Rapids, and are based in Ann Arbor, spinning out of the University of Michigan.

What they announced: On August 6, they announced they’re adding 100 new positions in Ann Arbor over the next few years, cementing their commitment to Ann Arbor and Michigan as a place for them to grow. Read More
