Nearly $12 Million expansion investment will create new Livingston campus and community experiences

GENOA TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Cleary University announces today it has secured funding to begin two major developments on its Livingston campus. This includes a new housing complex that will accommodate 126 students, doubling the University’s capacity for on-campus living. The new housing complex is currently under review by the township and the university hopes to break ground this November.

The University also plans to build a new, on-campus athletic facility. The venue will support six varsity sports including baseball, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s lacrosse and softball as an official game venue.

The yet to be named athletic complex will feature lighting for nighttime play, seating room for hundreds of spectators and artificial turf for nearly year-round play and events. 200 student athletes will benefit from the new space, which is scheduled for township approval this fall with completion in fall 2018.

The new athletic facility is a notable step in the rapid growth of Cleary’s athletic program, which joined the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) in August 2017.

The University will begin construction on both facilities after a lead philanthropic gift from University Housing Solutions (UHS), a private company. That gift has helped Cleary reach the funding threshold to complete the housing and athletic projects, which represent a nearly $12 million investment in the University’s Livingston campus. The University will continue to seek additional philanthropy for future capital projects, to enhance the area surrounding the new developments as an epicenter of on-campus engagement and activity.

“Our company actively seeks opportunities to align with successful colleges and universities. We see the track, under President Boyers’ leadership, for tremendous growth at Cleary University as it continues to recruit and educate talented students, industry partners and future leaders. The University’s collective vision and commitment to excellence, offering a well-rounded business education curriculum made it an ideal UHS partner,” said James Schmidt, President, University Housing Solutions.

“Cleary is committed to finding new ways to create an exceptional student experience, inside and outside of the classroom,” said Jayson Boyers, Ed. D., President, Cleary University. “ By offering more residential options for students who want the on-campus living experience and building a new athletic facility for varsity sports and campus activities, our University is living one of the key business principles we teach – adaptability. Cleary has been in Livingston County for nearly 40 years, and we continue to evolve in order the needs of our students and community.”

“Our new athletic field will add a new heartbeat to our Livingston campus, serving as a place for not only student athletes to compete and excel, but also a venue for our community partners, from youth sports to non-profit organizations, to access a state-of-the-art facility,” said Ward Mullens, Athletic Director, Cleary University. “The ability to host athletic events on-campus will unite the student body and enhance the Cleary experience for all.”
