January 2017 has already been a big month for mobility, and we’re only halfway done!
To start, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas has basically evolved into an auto show where plenty of automakers and technology partners are using the show to highlight new product rollouts. Ford announced it is working with Amazon’s Alexa, FCA and Google are showcasing their Uconnect/Android platform. Microsoft is looking to serve as a connected vehicle platform (by the way, check out SBD for more info on what’s happening at CES). Much closer to home, AT&T and the American Center for Mobility announced a partnership at the site, to provide exclusive network resources are available to users of the site.
But it wouldn’t be January in Michigan without a big focus on “the” auto show – the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS, or the one those of us from Michigan grew up attending with our families and friends). Those of us at SPARK are really excited by what’s happening ahead of the show’s public opening on January 14. In particular, this year the NAIAS has partnered with Techstars Mobility to create AutoMobili-D, a startup showcase with over 70 startups demonstrating their products and technology. This is a great opportunity to see what’s new in mobility tech, and to demonstrate to the startups what Michigan is all about. There is a big schedule of events, and you can see info below on ways you can attend.
In our backyard, Phoenix Contact, based in Pittsfield Township, is showcasing their rapid-charging work at their E-Mobility booth. Phoenix Contact recently chose to house their E-Mobility work at their R&D center in Ann Arbor, which adds to the growing list of Ann Arbor’s mobility investments.
