Ann Arbor has once again earned national recognition as one of the Top 100 Best Places to Live in 2025, according to Livability.com. The city stands out for its excellence in education, healthcare access, and abundant local amenities — qualities that make it an ideal place to live, work, and play.

Ann Arbor’s inclusion on this year’s list highlights the community’s ongoing efforts to foster economic opportunity, innovation, and quality of life. The Livability.com rankings, now in their 11th year, evaluate more than 2,000 small- to mid-sized cities nationwide. Cities are scored based on factors like affordability, job opportunities, natural and cultural amenities, and community engagement.

This year’s list puts a spotlight on cities that are not only livable but also positioned for long-term economic growth. Ann Arbor shines in this regard — with a highly educated workforce, nationally ranked schools and universities, and an average commute time of just 22 minutes. The city’s 10.4% job growth rate over the past five years is well above the national average, fueled by thriving sectors in tech, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing.

Ann Arbor SPARK, the region’s lead economic development organization, is also highlighted in the Livability profile for its role in fostering innovation and attracting high-growth companies to the area. In 2023 alone, SPARK supported more than 400 startups and growing businesses, helping generate over $200 million in new investment and creating more than 1,600 jobs across the region. That momentum continues to draw national attention — and contributes to Ann Arbor’s reputation as both a top place to live and a top destination for business.

“Being recognized among the top places to live in the country is a testament to the collaboration and commitment of Ann Arbor’s leaders, residents, and businesses,” said Jenn Hayman, senior vice president of marketing, communications and events at Ann Arbor SPARK. “It’s also a powerful reminder that the work we do every day — from strengthening our economy to improving our neighborhoods — matters.”

This year’s list focuses on affordability and quality of life in communities that offer a well-rounded experience for individuals and families alike. Ann Arbor’s strong performance in the categories of education, health, and local amenities highlights the city’s appeal for talent, employers, and visitors.
