The Washtenaw Economic Club is excited to open the 2023 Washtenaw Economic Club Speaker Series on March 14 with the University of Michigan economists Gabriel Ehrlich and Donald Grimes. This presentation for Washtenaw County will address topics and forecasts relative to employment, the trajectory of the economy, and the economic impact of COVID-19.

About the Presenters:

Donald R. Grimes is the Director of Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics and Research Professor for the Institute for Research on Labor, Employment, and the Economy at the University of Michigan. He has worked for many years with the Michigan Departments of Transportation and Treasury and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation on policy analysis and evaluating economic strategies. He is co-director of a project to generate long-term economic and demographic projections for all of the counties of Michigan.

Gabriel M. Ehrlich is an economic forecaster at the University of Michigan, where he is director of the university’s Research Seminar in Quantitative Economics (RSQE), overseeing RSQE’s forecasts of the U.S. and Michigan economies and regularly presenting to the Michigan legislature and governor on Michigan’s fiscal and economic prospects. He previously worked as an economic forecaster and analyst at the Congressional Budget Office, and his work has been discussed in the Economist, the Financial Times, and The Washington Post, and he has published articles recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, the Review of Economics and Statistics and the Journal of Urban Economics.
