In this session, Ashwathi Iyer will explore how early-stage sustainable innovations move from ideation and research into real-world use. Drawing on concrete case studies, the talk will highlight the resources available to innovators, common challenges encountered at this early stage, and models for achieving commercialization & adoption by industry or community partners. While some examples are UM-specific, others will draw from Ashwathi’s time working in the social sector in India, with the tools, approaches, and lessons applying broadly. The conversation will also surface potential touch points between university researchers and the Ann Arbor business and sustainability community, with an emphasis on collaboration, translation, and impact.
