Formerly known as Summer17, Summer18, and Summer19, SummerWorks! is the Washtenaw County Summer Youth Employment Program, a 10-week summer employment and mentorship program that pairs local employers with young adults. It connects youth to resources for building professional networks, exploring career opportunities, and developing essential job and leadership skills.
For the past two years, SummerWorks! has been able to engage about 100 youth in the program and is aiming to increase that number to 125-130 youth this year, with a focus on exposing youth to new career options and growing the workforce pipeline for companies. The program is open to young adults aged 16-24 and includes high school students, college students, and recent graduates among other talented and committed young adults.
SummerWorks! is a great way to connect with the next generation of workers, get a fresh perspective to fill operational needs, and develop an interest in public service with the next generation. If you are an employer interested in joining the program, attend the SummerWorks! Employer Mixer Event on Thursday, May 5th, at the A2Y Regional Chamber, where you’ll get a chance to hear from former participating employers about their experience and learn more about the process. There’s no need to sign up in advance – just show up!
Applications are now open for both young adults and potential employers and will remain open through the end of March. Sign up today at www.summerworks.info!
